Patient’s Advantage: What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
Affordable, Clear Care
DPC is a membership model, just like the gym. You pay the same membership every month that includes all visits, in office procedures, annual labs, and point of care testing. Wholesale and discounted pricing is available for additional imaging, extensive testing and medications.
This means no copays or unexpected bills.
Personalized Medicine
DPC is the way you get to build a relationship with your doctor. You will see the same provider every office visit including acute care and preventative visits. You are not a number in a crowd. Your personal story, environment, and goals deserve personalized integrative treatment.
No more being dismissed, re-explaining, waiting weeks for a response, or never hearing back from your team.
Transformative care
We want you to be able to see your doctor whenever you need. Preventative care requires time with your provider and building a relationship over years. Care for your family means working with your family system and treating all members. By cutting out the middlemen, we get to do what we love…
building relationships and spending time with our patients!
What’s the Difference?
F.A.Q.
We’re happy to answer any questions!
-
You do not need insurance to participate in DPC. If you do not have insurance, DPC will cover the vast majority of your health care needs and will provide full spectrum primary care. We still recommend insurance such as catastrophic or high deductible plans for ER visits, hospitalizations, and surgeries.
-
Even with insurance, patients of DPCs experience higher satisfaction of care and significant health savings.
Cardinal Primary Care does not bill insurance for primary care. If you would like to cover labs, imaging or medications through insurance this is feasible just as you would through traditional practices.
-
Yes! As of 2026 you can now use HSA for DPC.
You can contribute $150/month per individual, and $300/month for families. This means high quality access to care with greater flexibility and less financial stress.

Both models offer higher access and increased communication with your provider. They both bill monthly or yearly membership fees.
Concierge also bills insurance, so you are still subject to copays and deductibles in addition to your membership fee.
DPC is able to offer wholesale medications, labs and imaging services because we do not contract with insurance.
-
No. While Direct Primary Care covers around 95% of your health care needs it is not an insurance replacement for catastrophic events.
We recommend a catastrophic or high deductible health plan to pair with your DPC.
